GENERATION BASS presents TRANSNATIONAL DUBSTEP (SIX DEGREES RECORDS)

Transnational Dubstep is the first compilation from much-respected website Generation Bass, delivering 15 tracks of solid dubstep infused with classical worldly influence from a pan-global roster of producers.

Conceptualised and compiled by Generation Bass editor and co-owner DJ UMB in collaboration with Six Degrees Records, ‘Transnational Dubstep’ is the realisation of everything the genre bending, trend pushing and regularly lauded website has been working towards since its establishment in February 2009.

As the compilation’s name attests, this is dubstep that traverses borders and crosses oceans, soaking up the sounds of the Souhks, the patter of Parisian cafes and the ethereal atmospherics of Asia as it hops from one continent and musical tradition to another, delivering a truly post-modern and global sounding record.

Unsurprisingly, the roster of artists featured hail from across the planet, and includes established producers such as MIDIval Punditz, Celt Islam, The Bandish Projekt, alongside hotly-tipped fresh talents such as Engine Earz Experiment, Barbarix and Knowa Knowone.

The fusion between a globe-spanning palette of ethnic sounds and the digitally rendered sub-sonic science of 21st century dubstep is a natural one and not once sounds forced and incongruous – a fact that should be unsurprising when you consider the early tracks that helped build the dubstep scene such as Skream’s ‘Monsoon’ and Caspa’s ‘Cockney Violin’ so often referenced ethnic and traditional instrumentation.

With all this talk of pan-continental influence and traditional ethnic instrumentation, you could be forgiven for thinking that this is just a pompous and cynical cash-in, tying ‘world music’ to a flaccid dubstep backbone. But you’d be wrong – the 15 tracks on ‘Transnational Dubstep’ are made for soundsystems and immense bass-bins, not coffee tables. But then, they sound just as good at home on a lazy Sunday afternoon as they do blasting from a Funktion One system on a Saturday night.

You can already download Transnational Dubstep from a list of stores.
